We use tawk.to daily and noticed that visitors can now always see their previous chat history in the widget.
I clearly remember that in the past it was possible to configure whether visitors could see previous conversations (for example, using cards like “Previous Conversations”). I even found older forum threads where moderators confirmed this was configurable.
At the moment, I can’t find any setting to disable this behavior. It seems that the option was removed in a recent update, forcing chat history visibility for all visitors.
Can someone from the tawk.to team confirm:
Whether this feature was officially removed?
If this is expected behavior now?
If there is any workaround to hide chat history from visitors?
This change impacts support workflows and data exposure, so clarification would be very helpful.
Thank you for reaching out and for providing detailed context.
At this time, showing previous chat history to returning visitors is expected behavior in tawk.to. The option to disable this on the visitor side is no longer available, and there is currently no workaround to fully hide past conversations.
This behavior helps maintain conversation continuity for visitors using the same browser and device. We understand this may impact certain workflows, and your feedback has been shared with our team for review.
Please let us know if you need help with anything else.
Based on the current setup, this is expected behavior. The option to disable visitor-side chat history is no longer available, and there isn’t a built-in workaround to hide previous conversations in the widget.
If limiting visibility is important for your workflow, the only practical alternatives are adjusting chat data retention policies or asking visitors to clear browser cookies, since history is tied to their device and browser session.
If this impacts compliance or internal processes, it would be worth submitting it as a formal feature request so the team can reassess the need for that toggle.
