New user here and I was wondering if there is any way to make the chat stay open longer? Even with both the customer and I staying in the chat it seems like if there is not a message sent every 90 seconds or so the chat times out. Is there a way to change this?
Hi there,
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. By default, a tawk.to chat session should remain open for about 20 minutes of inactivity, so timing out after 90 seconds is unusual. This can sometimes be caused by:
- Network or Connectivity Issues – If there’s a brief interruption in the visitor’s connection, the chat session might end prematurely.
- Browser Settings or Extensions – Certain browser extensions or strict privacy settings may interfere with the chat session cookie.
- Website Integration Conflicts – Other scripts or plugins on your website could be refreshing or blocking the tawk.to widget, causing unintended timeouts.
Next Steps:
- Check your environment
- Make sure your internet connection is stable and that no browser extensions are blocking or altering script behavior.
- If possible, test the chat in an incognito/private window or in another browser to see if the issue persists.
- Review your website scripts
- Check if any scripts on your website might refresh or override the tawk.to widget.
- Ensure you’re using the latest tawk.to script snippet from your Dashboard.
- Schedule a Support Call
- If you still experience the 90-second time-out, please book a call with our support team so we can investigate further. You can schedule a session via this link:
We look forward to helping you resolve this and getting your chat running smoothly again.
