Does bot cause doorbell to ring?

Hello I am referring to my android phone that has tawk.to app and when it dings when someone is on the site. Does the search bots or any other bots cause the bell the bell to ring? Another way to put it, if anything besides a human visits my site will that cause the bell to ring?

Hi @michaeljmann,

Good question. Short answer: search bots won’t ring the bell.

The bell rings when someone is registered as a live visitor on your site. A visitor only gets registered when the tawk.to widget’s code actually loads and runs in a real browser. Search engine bots like Googlebot and Bingbot, and the vast majority of other crawlers, don’t run that code when they scan your site (we block them), so they never show up as visitors and won’t trigger the notification.

The one exception is automated tools that load pages in a full browser exactly the way a person would (these are used for things like scraping or testing). Those can register as a visitor, but they’re uncommon on a typical site and there’s no reliable way to tell them apart from a real person.

So in practice: if the bell (new visitor notification) dings, it’s almost always an actual human on your site, not a bot.

Hope that helps!
