iPad usability issues

When using the iOS on iPad, there’s a couple of issues:

  1. Pressing return on a physical keyboard enters a new line rather than sends the message, and
  2. Intermittently you can’t tap in the text area to type your message (wher eit says “enter chat message”). You have to exit the app and re-launch it, then rejoin the chat to make it work
  3. It would be nice if that “enter chat message” spot was taller on iPad because there’s so much screen space to work with. Right now you can either have it be one line, or the entire screen. The entire screen is too big, and the one line is too small lol.
  4. Some of the buttons feel quite small as touch targets on iPad - particularly the ones below the chat message entry box for Whisper, send file, emoji, etc.

I can work around the return/enter newline issue by using the full tawk.to website. This generally works fairly well once I use iOS’s “Save to Home Screen” feature so it becomes its own web app - that way I can enable desktop notifications.

However it doesn’t use the tawk.to logo in the icon - would be nice to have that set! It’s an easy fix to include the apple-touch-icon meta value.

You guys have it on your homepage, but not dashboard.tawk.to

Hello @websavers,

Thanks for your feedback. Just to confirm, are you using the iOS mobile app or accessing your account through a mobile browser?

Hey @JethroPaul

The numbered issues are with the iOS app.

The missing icon is when using dashboard.tawk.to as a ‘web app’ on iPad (using the ‘save to home screen’ function) because the dashboard is missing the apple touch icon meta - should be a really easy fix for your devs!

Oh, one more to add! In the iOS app, it would also be very handy to have autocorrect disabled when using a physical keyboard, OR have the option to disable/enable it. Every time I type a domain or product name that isn’t a standard word, it gets auto corrected, incorrectly.

Hi @websavers,

Thank you for your question! At the moment, there isn’t a setting in tawk.to that lets you enable or disable the keyboard’s auto-correct feature directly from the widget or dashboard.

Auto-correct is controlled by your own device or browser settings, so it needs to be adjusted on your end.

Anything web-app based should be totally controllable by the field - just gotta lookups spellcheck=true HTML param.

I thought if websites could do it, so too could native apps. That’s not the case?

Another little issue with the iOS app on iPad with keyboard attached:

When switching between Active Chats, if you exit one, then tap on another it should:

  1. Auto scroll you to the bottom, and
  2. Auto place the cursor in the “enter chat message” box so you can begin replying right away

Right now, every once in a while the auto-scroll doesn’t work and I have to scroll it manually to the latest messages. And it never automatically activates the text input area, so I have to tap that box to begin typing. (And because it’s such a small area, it can be hard to tap just right to activate it).

And another one:

When you choose Create Ticket, you can tap in the CC and Subject fields to edit them, but you can’t tap in the message field. There’s also this big white area on the right that doesn’t seem to do anything.

If you tap on any of the message features (like emoji) everything goes wonky… you can’t tap out of it, you can open multiple, but none of them close.

It would also be great if a summary of the chat could be automatically placed in the message field, along with perhaps an AI generated subject.

Hi @websavers,

Thank you for the detailed explanation. Could you please share a short recording of the issues you’re experiencing on the iPad? This will help our team review the situation and address it as quickly as possible.

Looking forward to your response.

Hey @JethroPaul

I feel I’ve described them fairly clearly - is there something I’ve reported that you’re not able to reproduce? If you can clarify on that, I can provide more details as needed.

Cheers,

Jordan

No worries — and thank you for clearly explaining the issue. I’ll forward this to our team so they can check what’s happening. We appreciate your patience while we look into it.

Hey Jordan @websavers,

By the looks of it, you’re using dashboard.tawk.to on your iPad, not the iOS mobile app, correct?

If possible, could you please share a screenshot/video with the issues you’d like fixed using jam.dev so that our dev team can easily replicate them on their end?

You can email it to me at kristaps@tawk.to.

Thank you so much for your help!

Hi @kristaps

Nearly everything I’ve reported here is with the iOS app for iPad. I made this quite clear in my first message, then clarified it again when asked in a reply to that. If you read through the thread in detail, you will see this.

The only part that was for dashboard.tawk.to was the part about the not using the logo/icon when saving to home screen.

If you would like me to expand upon how to reproduce certain items, I can provide further descriptions - simply point to the part you can’t reproduce. I can’t supply screenshots/captures because I would need to black out nearly everything for the privacy of my customers, making it a useless endeavour.

I took the time to report each of these issues in detail. It’s a bit frustrating that rather than trying to reproduce them yourself with the steps provided, you’re demanding I do more work to prove it to you. Instead, please try to reproduce the issues, then come back to me with specific areas you’re having problems reproducing and then I can try to get you more info on that specific issue.

I guess I can now see a bit better why issues like this haven’t been fixed after all these years.

Jordan @websavers,

Understood, thanks for clarifying. No stress, the team will look into this right away.

If anything is unclear or if we can’t reproduce it, we’ll let you know on this thread.

Adding the icon should be a quick fix.

Thanks for your patience while the team is working through them.
