Why cant I add a PDF as an article in the Knowledge base?

I have a number of instruction guides that I would like to add in the knowledge base that are PDF docs but note that there is no way to load them. This is alot of work to manually copy all content and images over to replicate this information when I already have them as a PDF file.
Please add this option to your knowledge base set up!!!
